Here’s What’s On the Holiday To-Do List

It’s the most wonderful, crazy, busy time of the year! Like many of you, I feel like I am running non-stop with holiday happenings. Hence, the lack of blog posts lately. I’ll be back to my normal posting after the holidays, but in the mean time, I thought I’d post what I’ve been up to by sharing my holiday to-do list.

1. Pick out a Christmas tree.

 2. Decorate the tree and the house.

3. Pick out an organization for donation.

My work allows me to set up charitable donations that are taken directly out of my paycheck, and Derek and I picked out Communities in Schools of Durham. It’s a nonprofit organization that “champions the use of evidence-based programs to help youth stay in school, graduate on time and succeed after high school.” We’re both passionate about education, and we wanted to pick something local, so CIS seems like a great fit.

4. Make gingerbread houses.

5. Light the first fire of the winter.

6. Drink eggnog.

7. Finish shopping for gifts.  —> I am SO close to being done with this one. Just a few last-minute items to go.

8. Bake cookies for neighbors and coworkers. –> It’s supposed to be cold and rainy here on Saturday, so I plan on staying in and baking all day. Yay!

9. Send out Christmas cards. –> I have the cards here, but I just need to mail them out this weekend.

10. Wrap gifts.

11. Host our Second Annual Tacky Christmas Sweater Party.  –> This is happening Friday night. I can’t wait!!

First Annual Tacky Christmas Sweater Party (2013).

12. Drive to Kentucky to spend Christmas with my family.  –> AHHH SO EXCITED! We head out on Christmas Eve.

13. Watch my favorite Christmas movies (i.e., Elf, Love Actually, and Christmas Vacation)  –> We’ll probably watch these when we get to Kentucky.

SANTA!!!! Cracks me up every time.

14. Drink hot chocolate while driving around and checking out the neighborhood Christmas lights.

15. Attend candlelit Christmas Eve service. –> This is my favorite church service of the year.

Whew! Almost there. Christmas is only one week from tomorrow. How crazy is that? I’ve really enjoyed all my holiday activities thus far (especially since it’s my first Christmas with Derek and in our new place), but I am looking forward to some down time once we get to Kentucky.

Well, with all of that said, it’s time to get back to work. Now I find myself wondering if this post is just a really creative form of procrastination? Perhaps. 🙂

What’s on your holiday to-do list? Are you running around at the last-minute or are you one of those people who had all of this stuff done before Thanksgiving? If you’re one of the latter people, please tell me your secrets!

Happy holidays!!!
