5 Questions – Part III

Hello there! It’s been a while since I’ve done a 5 questions post, so I figured now is as good a time as any to do another one. I was inspired by this list:

Instead of my usual questions, I’ll be filling in the blank. If you want to see previous 5 questions posts, check out the original and part II.

1. I’m currently watching . . .

Gilmore Girls.

Netflix added Gilmore Girls to instant streaming back in October, and I’ve been addicted ever since.

2. I’m currently listening to . . .

Derek occasionally yell things while he plays DotA. What a goober.

3. I’m currently reading . . .

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

I love the book so far. It’s nonfiction, but it reads like a novel. The story focuses on the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. Larson particularly focuses on Daniel H. Burnham, architect of the fair, and Dr. H.H. Holmes, a serial killer who lured women into his “Murder House.”

4. I’m currently enjoying . . .

a relaxing weekend. After several weekends traveling and going to weddings, I’m thankful for some downtime.

5. I’m currently thinking . . .

about what to do on Veteran’s Day. I get the day off from work, which means I want to have a great work-play day. I love those days when you get a lot done, but still have time for some fun. I’m thinking a morning of cleaning, laundry, and cooking before spending the afternoon hanging out with Jenna.

August was a bit of a roller coaster ride. Highlights include passing my clinical licensing exam, Derek returning from Wilmington to start his family medicine rotation in Chapel Hill, completing the first 5 weeks of half-marathon training, and celebrating Derek’s birthday. However, it has also been quite stressful at work for both of us this month, and we were heartbroken when things didn’t work out with Wink. (P.S. She has since been adopted!!)

Now I am getting really excited about September. Next weekend I’m flying to Kentucky to celebrate my grandpa’s 90th birthday! I haven’t seen my family since I graduated in May, and I am beyond excited to see them. I am also pumped for fall. It’s definitely my favorite season. I love the weather (though fall weather doesn’t really start until October in North Carolina); it’s perfect for running, tailgating, and enjoying the beautiful views when the leaves change color. Not to mention I’m obsessed with all things pumpkin. I’m sure I’ll be posting some delicious pumpkin recipes over the next few months.

Before I get ahead of myself with my love for fall, here are my favorite posts from August 2014:

5 Questions- Part II

A few weeks ago I decided to start making posts in which I answer 5 random questions, and I felt like making another one. Here’s the first 5 Questions post if you didn’t see it already.

1. What is the best compliment you have received?

Jenna, my best friend and maid of honor, gave the most wonderful toast at our wedding. In her speech she said that she was thankful to have me as a friend because I make life an adventure. I can’t think of a much better compliment than that, especially from someone I love and admire as much as Jenna.

2. What do you order or not order at a restaurant?

If I can make it at home, I generally don’t order it. Since I meal plan and cook the majority of the time, going out to eat is my chance to treat myself with something I can’t or don’t normally cook. I like to try whatever is considered to be the “house special.” I also love getting to know different cultures through food, so I try to select dishes that are more authentic and traditional if possible.

3. Do you have any birthmarks or tattoos?

No tattoos for me. I have 2 birthmarks. I have a small one on my wrist and a larger one on my knee. The one on my knee looks like Scooby-Doo’s head.

Imagine them facing the same direction. Weird, right?

4. If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which would you choose?

Parenthood for sure. I love that show! The Braverman’s are kind of crazy but heartfelt and sincere. I only have one sibling and one cousin, so the idea of having a big, boisterous family with people my age is appealing to me (at least for a month anyway). It also doesn’t hurt that they live in Berkeley, California.

P.S. Parenthood is streaming on Netflix if you haven’t seen it yet. Watch it!

5. What is your favorite commercial?

Because the world is awesome.

Please feel free to post one of your own answers to the questions!

Wow, July flew by! I’m finally getting into a groove at work now that I’m 2 months in, and Derek’s been in Wilmington on his OBGYN rotation for 4 weeks now (2 more to go!). I also started my first of 12 weeks of half marathon training. Next month will be a busy one, too. I take my licensing exam, we’re going to celebrate Derek’s birthday, we have friends visiting from out-of-town, and Derek will start his family medicine rotation. We may also have an announcement on Saturday. 🙂  Never a dull moment here.

5 Questions

I’ve decided to add a just-for-fun post into the mix every once in a while in which I answer 5 random questions. I’ve seen other bloggers make similar posts, and I always enjoy them. Hope you enjoy it too!

1. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?

I despise putting clothes away after I wash them. I don’t mind doing the laundry, but the clean clothes sit around for a few days before I finally will myself to put them away. No idea why I hate it so much.

2. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

This is an easy one. Hermione Granger. She’s brilliant, witty, loyal, and brave, AND she’s wizard.

3. Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?

I would definitely never be mistaken for her, but several people say I remind them (in looks and personality) of Victoria (aka Ashley Williams) from How I Met Your Mother. I’m always happy when I get that comparison because Victoria was my favorite potential mother until they committed character assassination with that terrible “leave him at the altar” storyline. I don’t really see the physical resemblance, but I’m certainly flattered.

4. What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?

I went to see The Fault In Our Stars with my friend Caroline a few weeks ago, and I cried several times during the movie. It was a great movie though!

5. What was the first thing you bought with your own money?

I don’t remember what I bought after getting my first paycheck ever, but the first thing I purchased with my first paycheck from the VA was a toaster. Yes, a toaster. I’m cool like that.
