I Love Ears {Fun Friday}

Happy, happy Friday!! I don’t have any big plans this weekend, but I’m still really excited about it. I have some CRAZY cases at work. I’m enjoying work because it’s so interesting right now, but I definitely need the break over the weekend.

If you haven’t seen a Fun Friday post yet, I compile pictures, stories, and videos of things that make me smile or laugh. My work can be emotionally draining and making these posts helps me  leave work behind for the weekend.  Anyway, let’s get this party started . . .

Lend me your ears! The commercial below advertises headphones in a very . . . creative way.

It’s that kind of humor that makes you squirm and laugh at the same time.

I have a confession: I’m one of those people obsessed with all things pumpkin. Given my affinity for pumpkin everything, I had to laugh when I saw the picture below.

I definitely think we need some delicious pumpkin desserts happening on Brown is the New Pink.

Next up is an entertaining Batman video.

I love that he makes his own sound effects.

I’ll wrap things up with this video from Kid Snippets. The video depicts how two kids imagine job interviews. Their version of salary negotiation is particularly accurate.

Have a wonderful weekend!

In Case of Accident Bring Cheese and Crackers {Fun Friday}

Well I’m posting another Fun “Friday” post on Saturday. Fail. I didn’t get back into town from Kentucky until 1AM Tuesday morning, and it threw off my week a bit. Apologies for the delay! Without further ado, here are some pictures, videos, and stories that made me smile or laugh this week. Enjoy!

Derek is a big Star Wars fan, so I got a kick out of showing him this picture.

According to the source, this little guy won 3rd place in a PetSmart Star Wars competition. I’d love to see the 1st and 2nd place pups because I think this one is great.

Since I’m apparently going through a dog phase, next up is a video of a very vocal dog who hates the alarm clock more than most people do.

You can almost hear him whining, “Turn it offfffffff!”

As a social worker, learning about innovative, community-based non-profit organizations always makes me smile. This week I found out about The Oregon Public House, which is a non-profit pub.  The Oregon Public House seeks to create a “family-friendly pub environment where our neighbors from the surrounding area can come to enjoy community around good food and craft beer while supporting great causes.” The video below explains more about the non-profit and the charities involved.

I’m a fan of their motto as well.

change-the-world

What a cool idea. If I ever make it out to Oregon I plan on visiting.

Finally, I love this winery’s sense of humor. One can only hope for an “unfortunate” wine truck accident.

Happy weekend to you!

Have You Seen Your Cat? {Fun Friday}

This Fun Friday post is brought to you from Lexington, Kentucky! I’m spending a long weekend at my parents’ house to celebrate my grandpa’s 90th birthday. It is SO great to be home. I haven’t seen my family since I graduated back in May, and I am excited to spend time with everyone, especially for such a happy occasion.

Happy 90th birthday, Pop-Pop!

On to some pictures, videos, and stories that made me smile or laugh this week .  . .

I was laughing out loud when I saw this spider dog video on Good Morning America today.

Those poor, poor people.

Tina over at Carrots ‘n’ Cake (one of my favorite blogs) shared this awkward parenting story by Glennon Melton on her post today. I found the description of an Uno game gone wrong hilarious. You’ll appreciate it even more if you’re a fan of Breaking Bad.

Since I already included a video of a dog pranking people, I think we need a video of people pranking dogs.

I love all the different reactions. The beagle puppy just doesn’t care.

With all the dog videos this week, I’ll wrap things up with a cat picture.

Happy Friday! Enjoy the weekend!

Every Loaf Of Bread Is A Tragic Story {Fun Friday}

Happy Labor Day weekend! I am THRILLED it’s a three day weekend. This week was the most grueling week of work since I started. All of my patients this week were either very sick or had complex social situations. I worked late every single day and still didn’t get everything done. I am definitely thankful for a few days off to relax. Needless to say, my crazy week kept me from blogging as much as usual and explains why I’m a bit late with the Fun Friday post. Better late than never!

To start things off, I want to share an article from The Boston Globe.  The article is about a love story that spans more than 60 years. In 1950, Cynthia Riggs and Howard Attebery met working at marine geology lab in California. They were friends and even wrote to each other in code, but nothing became of the friendship beyond that summer. Both Riggs and Attebery married, had children, divorced, and changed careers. They led full lives and never crossed paths after that summer in 1950. That is, until 2012 when Riggs received a familiar coded letter. After more than 60 years Attebery tracked Riggs down and sent her a letter, which ended up being the very delayed beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Up next is a cute video of a dog named Mille helping her owners carry the groceries.

Her owners’ accents are just as entertaining as her skills. It took me a couple seconds to figure out that they were speaking English.

I also enjoyed the sign below.

I think I’ll start referring to beer as “success stories.”

Finally, since Derek and I have been watching Lord of the Rings lately, I want to share an older video of Dominic Monaghan prank interviewing Elijah Wood. I can’t imagine what Wood was thinking during the interview. He handles it much better than I would.

When will you wear wigs???

Have a great weekend!

Treat Yo Self {Fun Friday}

Happy Friday!! We made it to the weekend, people! I’m not usually this way, but I have been ready for Friday since Monday.  TGIF.

No big weekend plans here. I need to catch up on sleep and chores, but that’s about it. Sometimes the best kind of weekend is one without plans. On to some things that made me smile or laugh this week!

Have you ever seen a humorous Amazon review?

I also found this list of funny Amazon reviews, and  I thought others might enjoy it, too.

During one of the weekends that I spent in Wilmington with Derek, we went to Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn. While we were there, we noticed some unique signage at the drink station. I, naturally, took some pictures.

Love it.

As you likely know from past posts, I am a fan of the show “Parks and Recreation.” This past week I was hesitant about spending $40 on a watch for work (which isn’t even an outrageous amount of money). I have a hard time buying things that I want but don’t necessarily need, but then I thought of the scene from P&R below.

Always makes me laugh. Treat yo self.  (P.S. I ended up getting this watch, and I love it. Highly recommend.)

Like most people, I was saddened to hear about Robin Williams’ death. Out of his many critically acclaimed movies, my favorite is Good Will Hunting. In fact, Williams improvised part of my favorite scene from that movie. You can tell that Matt Damon is really laughing, and the camera actually shakes because the camera operator is laughing as well. In memory of his work and life, I wanted to share the scene because it always makes me smile. (NSFW due to language.)

What a beautiful and real way to think about love. Rest in peace.

Have a great weekend!

You Can’t Steer A Parked Car {Fun Friday}

Happy, happy weekend! It’s been an absolutely crazy, difficult week; hence the late post. There is an explanation soon to come, and I’ll be back to my regular posting schedule next week.

I know that I featured Brian Williams in last week’s post, but I have to include this news report.

How cool is that??

I saw this image this week, and it really spoke to me. In my post Character Cannot Be Developed In Ease and Quiet, I wrote about my struggles with transitioning from student to professional. Much of my stress stems from the notion that I may not choose the right or best path. I love what the image below says about making choices and getting started.

Have you heard that song “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor? Derek showed it to me, and it’s been stuck in my head all week. It puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.

Loving that retro vibe.

Finally, this video of a 5-year-old’s day at the fair is hilarious. “Apparently,” he picks up a lot of his language from his grandpa.

It’s like he’s an old man trapped in the body of a kid haha!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables {Fun Friday}

It’s a historic day here on Brown is the New Pink. I’m posting my fun Friday post on Friday afternoon. Victory!

TGIF y’all! It’s been another busy week. My dad had  knee replacement surgery on Monday, so I’ve been checking in with my parents everyday. He’s home now and doing well, but I wish I could be there with them. On a good note, I also bought my plane ticket for my trip home to Kentucky in September. We’ll be celebrating my grandfather’s 90th birthday the weekend that I visit. I can’t wait to see everyone! I also got dinner with my friends Caroline and Jenna this week, and I had a great time catching up with both of them. To top it all off, Derek is coming home tonight! It’s always a good week when I get to see or talk to all of my favorite people.

Anyway, enough about my week. On to some stories, videos, and pictures that made me smile and laugh this week.

I haven’t posted anything from him in a while, but I love Stephen Colbert. He never fails to make me laugh. Below is a clip of him and Jon Stewart vying for the title of World’s Biggest Star Wars Fan.

Jamil Ahmad, former Pakistani civil servant, wrote a book of short stories called The Wandering Falcon. He passed away this week at home at the age of 83. I heard Ahmad’s story on NPR, and I’ve had it on my mind ever since. He completed the book’s manuscript around 1973-74. Ahmad reached out to publishers back then, but no one took the story. His wife, Helga Ahmad, persisted with the search for a publisher, and he was finally published when he was 79 years old. It took 40 years and the encouragement and support of his spouse, but he finally became a published author. What a great reminder to never give up on your dreams and that supporting others’ dreams can make all the difference for them.

Like most people, I attend several meetings each week at work. While I can appreciate their purpose, they can be long and tedious. The image below sums up how I feel towards the end of seemingly never-ending meeting.

Below is an amusing video about an innovative way to reduce food waste and get more people to eat fruits and vegetables. The EU made 2014 the “European Year Against Food Waste,” and a supermarket chain in France decided to launch a campaign to sell imperfect fruits and vegetables. The campaign is called “Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables.” The grocery stores sold fruit juice and vegetable soup made with inglorious fruits and veggies to show that they tasted the same as their better looking counterparts, and they reduced the price of these fruits and vegetables by 30%. Less waste and more affordable produce? What a great idea!

I’ll conclude this week’s fun Friday post with a mindlessly funny video. The dog in the video is SO freaked out by an egg rolling on the floor. The way the dog awkwardly flails his paws around is quite entertaining.

Happy weekend to you!
