An Alternative Ending {Fun Friday}

Happy Friday! As you may already know, Fridays at Brown is the New Pink are all about smiles and laughter. Below are few funny things I saw this week.

I’m definitely a dog person, and I can’t wait to have one of my own. Derek and I frequently come up with names for our future dog. Stark, Charles, Shadowfax, Winston, and Reginald are some of our more recent picks. (Apparently we like rich, old white-dude names for dogs. Weird.)  I can only hope that little Shadowfax will be half as funny and adorable as this border collie at the bowling alley.

I think all of the athletes out there will appreciate these pictures. A woman posted two pictures from a Spartan Race: one of her and one of her boyfriend. The comparison is hilarious. I’ve definitely been there with awkward racing pictures. I couldn’t find any of my terrible race photos to share; they somehow “got lost.” I will, however, share the awkward outtakes from our engagement pictures last year. Enjoy!

For those of you fancy people out there with the iPhone 5, have you ever used the slow motion camera feature? Derek has one, and we’ve messed around with it a few times. While we were at the beach this week, Derek decided it was a good time to put the camera and the strong wind to good use. Obviously, I was really psyched to flip my hair around; please excuse the cheesy, bordering on creepy, smiling. Also take note of Derek’s crazy-sounding slow mo voice.

My final entry this week is for all of the Game of Thrones fans. (Don’t watch this if you haven’t seen the most recent episode on 5/11!) I present the alternative ending to Tyrion’s speech in the most recent episode:

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Don’t Be A Psycho {Fun Friday}

I can’t believe it’s finally here; I graduate tomorrow! I’m so excited to spend the weekend celebrating with my family and friends. I will write more about the end of this chapter of my life next week, but for now I want to continue with Smile & Laugh Fridays. If your interested, the two previous posts are Smile, It’s the Weekend and It’s Gonna Be May.

Let’s kick things off with a little grammar humor.

I like cooking

Have you seen Jimmy Fallon’s hashtag segments? They always make me laugh. In honor of Mother’s Day, I want to share the segment from this week. #MomQuotes

I saw this sweet post from Humans of New York:

“One day a crazy looking homeless guy came to the door, and we were about to close the door on him, but my mother saw him and shouted: ‘Hey Eugene!’ She knew his name! Then she ran around the kitchen putting all sorts of food into tupperware, and brought it out to him. After he left, we asked my mom why she gave him so much food. She told us: ‘You never know how Jesus is going to look when he shows up.’ She was always saying that– it was a spiritual thing. Then you know what happened? Two months later, that same man showed up on the door step, clean shaven, and wearing a suit. And he had an envelope with money for my mother. ‘Ms. Rosa always believed in me,’ he said. I’ll never forget it! Eugene was his name.”

Finally, I frequently watch The Colbert Report, and I loved one of his recent openers. Colbert satirizes “Watters’ World,” a segment on The O’Reilly Factor. As a young person who cares about politics and my government representation, I much prefer “Tad’s Turf.” 🙂

Have a great weekend!

It’s Gonna Be May {Fun Friday}

If you didn’t see my post from last Saturday, I am posting things that make me laugh or smile every Friday. It is my way of separating myself from my work and transitioning into the weekend. Right now it’s not much of a transition since I’m finished with school and don’t start work until May 19th, but I want to get into the habit of doing it. I also hope that it will make someone else smile, especially if it’s been a rough week.

I keep seeing this lovely picture of JT floating around on Facebook, and it cracked me up. If your wondering what the heck this is referring to, it’s from this NSYNC song.

I shared this with my friends on Facebook already, but I found a really neat story/cookbook when I was browsing reddit. Leanne Brown, a grad student at NYU, created a cookbook called Good and Cheap. It is “a collection of recipes for folks with limited income, particularly those on SNAP benefits (formerly the Food Stamp program).” It’s free, and it’s made for those trying to live on $4/day. Delicious food AND social justice?!? I’m in love.

For all of the Harry Potter/Star Wars/Lord of the Rings people out there, you may enjoy this video. The power of magic is pitted against the force. What’s not to love? The end is the best part, so make sure to watch it all the way through.

Finally, I can’t remember where I saw this, but it makes me laugh and sums up how I feel right now as a graduate starting my first job. I know it’s not entirely true, but it’s how I feel sometimes.

Smile, It’s the Weekend

As my previous posts indicate, I am a soon-to-be social worker. I love what I do, and I know that it is what I am meant to be doing. That being said, it is really difficult work sometimes. While I see some great moments for people, I am more often present for moments of struggle, loss, or death. It is fulfilling work, but it is also draining. By the time I get to Friday afternoon I usually need something lighthearted, touching, or funny to separate myself from work. From now on, I will be posting things on Friday afternoon that make me smile or laugh. I think it will help me transition into the weekend, and I hope that it will help anyone else who just needs to see a little bit of good in the world.

I didn’t think of this idea until late last night, so I’m going to cheat and post today instead. 🙂

Remember this moment from Miss Congeniality . . .

perfect date

So awkwardly awesome.

Yesterday, I saw this adorable video of a man finding out he’s going to be a grandfather. The look of pure joy on his face is priceless.

I LOVE Parks & Rec. It’s probably my favorite show on TV right now. All of the characters make me laugh for different reasons, and I appreciate that the show can be touching without being corny. This is a little old now, but it still makes me laugh:

Finally, I recently became a big Jimmy Fallon fan, and this video of jokes for a depressed panda cracked me up. I believe one of his writers is actually dancing around in that suit.

Now I’m off to Brewgaloo for a fun afternoon with friends. Have a great weekend!
